Nov 08, 2022

In-Vitro Fertilization is a fertilization process where the egg and sperm are fertilized outside of the body. It can take a toll on the couples, physically, financially, and emotionally. In this article, we will be discussing the dos and don’ts of the IVF treatment that will make the process easier to navigate and increase your chances of success.

Dos
Understand the process - Before you start with the process, you should talk with your infertility specialist in detail regarding all the available options for you as well as the line of treatment. All the likely setbacks should be clearly laid out.
Maintain the right weight - To improve your chances of conception, you need to maintain a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI). You can try eating a low carbohydrate and high protein diet for losing weight. If you want to gain weight, a high carbohydrate and high protein diet is for you. You should avoid processed and junk foods at all costs.
Exercise - You need to perform all forms of exercises required for achieving the optimum BMI and staying healthy. Also, both you and your partners should get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day.
Supplements and Medications - Both male and female partners will have to start taking vitamin and antioxidant supplements along with Omega 3 fatty acids. You should not take any over-the-counter medications without a doctor’s consultation. The supplements that you take during the pre-IVF stage should be continued during the cycle. If you are taking any existing medications, you should talk to your doctor about it as it might affect the process of embryo implantation and IVF. For example, you have to stop taking blood thinners before the procedure.
Telling the doctor about pre-existing ailments - If you have a pre-existing ailment like diabetes, cardiac problems, or hypertension, you must talk to your fertility expert about it. Several clinics conduct a complete surgical profile for the female and semen analysis for the male.
Eat healthily - Both male and female partners are required to eat a healthy diet during their IVF cycle. Also, you need to stay hydrated and avoid intake of drugs, alcohol, and smoking.
Follow the doctor’s instructions - All the medications should be taken at the right time, as prescribed by the doctor. You also have to maintain the right temperature for injections. It is important to be mentally prepared as well. You will have to make multiple visits to the hospital for your scans and treatments. It is important to maintain timing.

Don’ts
Stress - Stress can have a direct negative impact on hormones that are at the reproductive system’s core. Taking stress has a direct impact on men’s and women’s fertility and should be avoided. You can try meditating or yoga for keeping stress at bay.
Alcohol and Smoking - Smoking is strictly prohibited for men as well as women. However, drinking in moderation is fine (less than 60 ml of alcohol 2 times a week). You also have to limit your carbonated drinks intake.
Heavy exercising - During the IVF cycle, the woman should not perform any intensive cardio exercise or bend. It is recommended that you do light walking along with meditation and yoga. It will help keep the stress levels down and improve your mental health.
Intercourse - During the IVF cycle of 10 days, physical intercourse should be avoided, and any complications should be prevented.

Now, you must understand what you should and should not do during the IVF treatment. In the end, the most important thing that you could do is follow the instructions of your doctor and hope for the best.
